We have now officially severed all ties with the old place...
At the new place, here in the Scottish Borders, the studio is now fully set up and has been christened, 'Castle Plonkit'.
The website has been updated and given a new look.

One month after my last post, and I have started recording!

Great news! We signed our tenancy agreement last Friday, and we can start moving in two days time.
Hoping to get some recording done by the end of the year!
In the meantime... On the music page, I've posted two demo songs from many years ago that I found on my Soundcloud profile - 'I'm going home' (appropriately!) and 'Port in a storm'.

This week, due to deceit on the part of the vendor, we had to withdraw our offer for the property.
This left us no option but to look for rented accommodation. We have found one that is very suitable for our needs, and it has a good sized room for my studio - it's even detached!
We are now having to prove our ID and go through credit/financial checks. We know who we are, that we are honest, and that we can afford it... but the checks are a right grilling!
The fact that they're doing them, must be a positive though!
We'll hold on tight and get through this. I'll easily have enough 'inspiration' for a double album!

Sad news, for the moment...
We need to move home. Not because we want to, but our landlord wants to sell, and we aren't in a position to buy.
We are well on with the process of buying a property not far from here, but priorities mean that I won't have any time for my music until we are back on our feet again.
The studio was disconnected weeks ago, and I have played very little since then. In the new place, there is a small room which will accommodate my studio

The beginning of March saw the setting up of a new studio PC and new recording software - and what a joy that was!
At that point, I was well on with recording a new song and fortunately, I was able to finish it off on the new system.

Working on a new one!
Started recording on March 2nd and I have already got lots of vocals and guitar work done for the intro, first two verses, link and chorus.

Voice update(5): I have a reasonable vocal range back... but not there yet.
Still working on backing track ideas - and some are ready for vocals. Changed the look of the website a bit with some new text graphics and a new Chris Swinney logo.

Voice update: Continuing to improve and my vocal range is increasing at a faster pace now.
It has been three months since I 'lost it' and I'm now even more confident that I'll be recovering fully in the near future.

I've recorded almost two basic song arrangements that vocals could be added to. Just waiting for lyrics, melody... and a voice to sing them.
My voice continues to recover... but from experience, it never recovers fast enough!

Working on backing tracks for a couple of new song arrangements.
In late October, I lost my singing voice due to some condition that I've had four or five times in the past.
Because of that, I know what to expect, and it gradually returns until it's back to normal in 2-3 months. Looking forward to singing again in January 2024!

A day worthy of note... Ten years ago I finished recording 'Light My Way', which was to become track eleven on the album, 'Blackhill... and Back'.

I'm straight back to it with a new set of lyrics and plenty of arrangement ideas. Recording will start soon.

Not so fast! I was doing some general 'housekeeping' in my studio and thought, 'surely I CAN get this done in time for Christmas'. Well I have, and it's up on the Music page - a Christmas song called 'Days Like These Forever'... I hope you enjoy it!

Lots of recording done for a Christmas song and the song itself is now finished. Running out of time for getting things the way I want it to be, so I've decided to shelve it until next year.

A week ago, I started working on a song idea and recorded a basic intro, two verses, chorus backing track arrangement. I have a melody in my head and have started recording the full arrangement. Today I thought, "This sounds like a Christmas song".
Well, what a coincidence... given the timing. I usually manage to complete a song in one month, so hopefully this will be completed by mid-December.

Started recording an arrangement for a song idea early in October and then some melody/lyric ideas came shortly afterwards. It's now well on and will be completed before November is over!

Just finished today. The brand new song, 'Selective Memory', is now up on the music page.

A couple of weeks ago I played a demo from 2017 which was some backing for an intro, couple of verses and a link. I've now expanded it into backing for a full song.
Basic drums have been programmed and recorded with electric guitar and bass. Again... no song as yet!

Lyrics/melody now composed for the new one. Started work on recording lead vocals over the past few days.

Began working on a new song this week. Recorded some basic drums and acoustic guitar for a full song arrangement. No lyrics yet, but a full melody line in mind... working backwards again!

Now finished and up on the music page, the 2022 recording of 'Tell Her No'. It was recorded between June 23rd and July 7th.

Last week, started working on a re-recording of 'Tell Her No'. The song was originally recorded around 22 years ago and features on the album 'First'.
